Yesterday I posted two new songs for the ukulele club, “At The Bottom Of Everything” by Bright Eyes and “Can’t Buy Me Love” by The Beatles. Before I get onto today’s songs, I’m just going to take a moment to remind you of something….
Just because a song is written out for the ukulele, with ukulele chord shapes, doesn’t mean you can’t play it on a guitar, mandolin….whatever. Any chord is made up of a specific set of notes, at specific frequencies, so a ‘G’ chord on a ukulele, guitar, mandolin, piano, etc etc will always sound okay together. The chord shapes you use to make those notes might be different for each instrument, but the results are always compatible. So….. guitarists, you can try those songs I posted yesterday, just use the chord shapes you know and love. Equally, ukulele players, if you want to try these two songs today, no reason you shouldn’t. Ok? Lots of new music for everyone!
The two songs that I’ve chosen to add to the Thursday night guitar club book are “Breakfast At Tiffany's” by Deep Blue Something, and “Kids In America” by Kim Wilde. Like the songs I presented yesterday, in this blog I’m going to share a little bit about the song with you, post a video of the original song, put up a pdf link for you to download the chord sheets and post a video of me playing the song, so that you have something to play along to. Ok? Let’s go!
Breakfast At Tiffany's
(Deep Blue Something)
From Wikipedia…
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" is a song by American alternative rock band Deep Blue Something. Originally appearing on their 1993 album 11th Song, it was later re-recorded and released on their 1995 album Home. Released as a single in July 1995 by Interscope and Rainmaker, the song was the band's only hit in the United States, peaking at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 in January 1996. Outside the United States, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" topped the UK Singles Chart and peaked within the top ten on the charts of Australia, Flanders, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, and Sweden.
Todd Pipes said in a Q magazine article about the promotion of "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "As the song had 'breakfast' in the title, radio stations thought it would be genius to have us on at breakfast time. We'd be up 'til 3 am and they'd wonder why we were pissed off playing at 6 am." Follow-up singles failed to match the success of "Breakfast at Tiffany's", hence the reason for the band's classification as a one-hit wonder.

Kids In America
(Kim Wilde)
From Wikipedia…
"Kids in America" is a song recorded by English pop singer Kim Wilde. It was released in the United Kingdom as her debut single in January 1981, and in the United States in spring 1982, later appearing on her self-titled debut studio album. Largely inspired by the synth-pop style of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) and Gary Numan, the song reached number two on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks and number one in Finland and South Africa, and charted in the top 10 of many European charts as well as Australia and New Zealand. In North America, it became the first top 40 hit, reaching the top 40 in Canada and the United States. It was certified gold in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and Sweden; and has sold over three million copies worldwide. The song has been covered by many artists from different genres.

(wow....it just gets better and better, doesn't it??? maybe I was standing on a lego brick....)
And here's a new club contents page...
If you're a club member, please take a moment to check you've got all these songs in your book. If you've got other songs, they'll have been superceded by something else (34B replaces 34A for example) - you can obviously keep the songs, but we won't be playing them on club nights anymore!
Cheers
