New Ukulele Club Songs 2026

After a few months off from blogging, I thought it was about time I got myself back in the game again, and what better reason than to share the new songs we're adding to the Coustics Ukulele Club repertoire for the year ahead.

We work slightly differently than most other clubs in that, if songs prove to be unpopular or too difficult for the group, they get superseded, i.e. replaced in the book by something else. I do this so that the group has a focused set of 40 songs to play at any one time, unlike many groups, who have three or four books containing a total repertoire of 250+ songs, most of which they can’t possibly play on a regular basis. That's why some songs have letters as well as numbers. 14A replaces 14, 19D replaces 19C... they're not extra songs we'll play, they're replacements. I’m not saying that’s the right way of doing it, I’m just saying that’s how I do it.

And so...

08 'Roll Over Beethoven' is being replaced by 08B, a version of 'Sweet Home Chicago', the blues classic by Robert Johnson, which many people will recognise from the Blues Brothers movie.

29 'You Shook Me All Night Long' is being replaced by 29A 'Like A Virgin' by Madonna. 'La Isla Bonita' has been a popular choice for the club over the last few years, thought I'd add another, and it's a good opportunity to do something in a different key!

and lastly....

32C 'Don't Stop Believin' is being replaced by the Bryan Adams track 'She's Only Happy When She's Dancin', an album track of the 'Summer of 69' era. (32D)

For those of you in the group, I hope you enjoy them - we'll be bringing them in as of the first meeting of 2026, which will be Thursday January 22nd at 8pm at The Friary Arms in Bognor Regis. This year's Southdowns Music Festival will be September 11th to 13th, the club have been asked to play in the performance marquee on the Friday afternoon as per usual, details to follow....

I'll also be running some kind of workshop on the Sunday morning - again details to follow...
