Earlier today I published a blog about a recent walk my wife and I took around Thorney Island in Hampshire and how I decided to try and use the day out as a bit of songwriting inspiration. The jury's still out on whether it worked or not, but just as a bit of fun, I thought I'd share with you half a dozen of the walk, at least superficially, reminded me of.
If you can add to the playlist, please comment at the bottom!
#1 The Bridge
Grant Lee Buffalo
Crossing the bridge where many lean to see
Over the rail to glance the trembling stream
Others stick to the centre, fearful it might sway
And all those who would choose to turn back the other way
But you and I have our own bridge to cross
Weather worn, and sea tossed,
We’ve our own bridge to cross let’s not
Make any excuses
#2 Tsunami
Manic Street Preachers
Eyes for teeth grating over me
Bring down the shadows of my mind
Sleep and breathe under our sheets
Inhale the anxiety in-between, in-between, in-between, in-between,
Tsunami, Tsunami came washing over me…
#3 Nothing To Fear
Chris Rea
I feel your heat in dusty whispers
The wind is cold around your moon
It’s getting hard to keep your distance
I know your time is coming soon
Don’t point your dream at my horizon
Don’t take your rose to far from home
Please don’t forget we’re not each other
Each soul has black thorns of his own
#4 Message In A Bottle
The Police
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day with no-one here but me, oh
More loneliness, than any man can bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair oh
#5 On The Shoreline
Genesis
Well there’s a place where two worlds collide
The pile of stone against the pull of the tide
You can stay with your feet on the ground
Step into the water leave the dry behind
On the shoreline
Meet me on the shoreline
Where you can only swim if you try
#6 Beyond The Sea
Bobby Darin
Somewhere
Beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships
That go sailin’
